Over the weekend I learned about the death of Erica Kennedy, a writer, stylist, brand strategist, and apparently a sister-friend to a good chunk of the blogosphere. I had never heard of her before, but I was intrigued. Who was this woman that had inspired so many?
Turns out, she was fucking incredible.
I spent time reading articles she had written, and interviews that she did. All show a smart woman who went after what she wanted. Those glimpses of her talent and thoughts were informative, but this memorial gave me a view inside of the force of encouragement that was Erica. Amongst the stories, and nuggets of wisdom, this gem stood out to me: Just do that shit.
Just do that shit.
The four words you need when you feel you have stalled, when you hesitate on moving forward, when you try to convince yourself that YOU should not be the one leading.
It’s an idea that inspires forward motion, creation, digging deeper into yourself, TRYING. Fighting through the external and internal factors fighting to weigh you and your dreams down. It’s about pushing, pushing, pushing, even when you doubt that something might happen.
It’s about not giving up.
It’s not the flip side of being a quitter, but the high road of finding your purpose and digging yourself in so deep that you become one with your love, your vision, your thoughts.
It’s about realizing when things have gone awry, and looking to make a change when you realize you could be doing something more.
Just do that shit.
A sentiment from Erica that resonated with me, and that I hope you take with you too.
Peace.
